Volunteer on your local waterways, get help to elderly people, and gain retail skills experience

This week our opportunities include the chance to volunteer on your local waterways, get help to elderly people who haven't been able to reach it before, and gain retail sales skills experience. There's also a fantastic opportunity to learn how to maintain woodland and even help out with horticulture courses! 

As always, you can contact us with any queries you have, or there's our weekly drop-in where you can talk to us in person. It's entirely free and there's no need to book.

Woodland Project Volunteer – The Pavilion Study Centre 

Are you interested in the outdoors, landscaping and greenery? The Pavilion Study Centre have a small woodland area, about the size of half a football pitch and are looking for volunteers to help maintain it. The Centre also runs horticulture courses for students and would welcome support to help the students transform the area. Click here to apply!

Our very own "Old People's Home for Year 6's" in Barnet!

On Tuesday 23 January, Volunteering Barnet organised an opportunity for Year 6 pupils at Belmont Preparatory School in Mill Hill to visit residents at Knights Court Nursing Home in Edgware, as part of the Social Action project. The school were keen for their pupils to give up their time to learn about the different ways people live and give something back to the local community.

Throughout 2017, we have held a free, weekly drop-ins for people interested in volunteering at BOOST @ Burnt Oak Library and at the artsdepot in North Finchley. Now we have decided it is time to try a new venue in the east of Barnet, to replace our artsdepot drop-in. Do you know of somewhere?

Key findings

  • Most organisations who completed the survey had attended our Volunteering Fair, and it was events which got the highest rating from respondents.
  • While nearly all organisations had used our website to support volunteer management, many are yet to access the other resources we offer including: our free consultation sessions for organisations involving volunteers, online resource bank.
  • 56% or organisations knew that volunteers had found paid employment in the last 12 months.Volunteering in Barnet if popular, inclusive and rewarding. 
  • In Barnet, volunteering is popular, rewarding and inclusive.
