Safe Volunteering Environment
This page outlines the Best Practice when creating a safe volunteering environment.
Before recruiting volunteers, make sure your organisation is volunteer-ready by completing the Volunteer Management Health Check.
Best practice, as outlined in the GLV's London Volunteer Management Charter, is:

Volunteers, staff and clients should all be safe. During the recruitment process, it is appropriate to ask all volunteers if there is anything volunteer managers or fellow volunteers should know about, to make sure everyone is safe while volunteering. Examples could be allergies, relevant health conditions or support needs.
Give volunteers the opportunity to disclose information in a safe and supportive environment, and reassure volunteer this won’t affect their ability to be involved. The Healthy Volunteering Plan (link below) is a tool to support this process.
Your organisation should have a safeguarding policy and procedure in place, especially when involving young volunteers. Make sure volunteers are training on this where appropriate. For more advice on safeguarding, contact your local council.
