Helping make the most out of using volunteers

Volunteering Barnet periodically offers training for volunteer-involving organisations (VIOs) in order to help them manage their volunteers and increase the effectiveness of the experience for both VIO and volunteer alike.

We also work with external partners to promote other volunteering opportunities that may be available in the borough.

Below is a list of some of the training courses that Volunteering Barnet runs for organisations.

Volunteer Coordinators’ Forum

This is an opportunity for volunteer coordinators to meet, network and share successes and challenges. Topics vary but may include how to get the best out of Volunteer Connect, utilising employer supported volunteers and best practice. There is substantial opportunity for participant-led discussion at these where participants can raise any questions or challenges.

Best Practice in Volunteer Management

Whether you're new to volunteer management or a seasoned pro, this course is a great opportunity to gain or refresh your knowledge. This interactive workshop uses the London Volunteer Management Charter to cover basic and best practice in volunteer management. Topics include recruitment, dealing with issues, on going support and reward and recognition. You'll be introduced to a wide range of templates and guidance, which can be accessed through our online resource bank.

The Changing Face of Volunteering

This workshop covers the changes in the field of volunteering, such as; changing demands and motivations for volunteering, and recent research into the benefits to the volunteer being more widely accepted. You'll develop how you can respond to these challenges and opportunities, to offer an up to date and responsive volunteer programme.

Through the eyes of the Volunteer: Inclusive Volunteering

This workshop introduces volunteer coordinators to ways in which you can make your volunteering programme and opportunities more inclusive. Several tools are introduced for helping to support volunteers, including our healthy volunteering plan. Learn from volunteers' experiences to understand how you can make your programme more accessible.

Through the eyes of the Volunteer: Settling in

This workshop equips you to conduct an effective and comprehensive induction for your new volunteers. It covers the policies and procedures needed, how to help volunteers feel part of the organisation, and how to conduct risk assessments and introduce on going support.

If you are interested in attending any of the above trainings, please get in contact with us via email stating the name of the training and how many people you would like to attend.
